Visionox has unveiled ambitious plans to establish a cutting-edge innovation center in Kunshan, marking a significant advancement in China’s push to dominate next-generation display technologies.
The company announced yesterday that it will invest approximately ¥5 billion ($775 million) to create the Kunshan Global New Display Industry Innovation Center, following negotiations with the Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee.
Industry analysts view this development as strategically important as display technologies rapidly evolve toward higher resolution, lower power consumption, and more versatile form factors. The AMOLED technology at the center of this investment has already become the preferred choice for smartphones and wearable devices, with expansion into larger screens and extended reality applications accelerating.
The innovation center will occupy approximately 10 acres of industrial land, with ¥4 billion ($620 million) allocated to equipment, intellectual property, and working capital, while the remaining ¥1 billion ($155 million) will fund land acquisition and facility construction.
Beyond pure display technology, the center will pursue three core initiatives: advanced display technology development with a focus on domestically produced materials and equipment; product delivery for extended reality and X-ray applications; and semiconductor technology incubation including promising perovskite and glass substrate projects.
Industry observers note that this investment aligns with broader technology transfer goals, as many of the thin-film deposition, photolithography, etching, and packaging processes central to AMOLED displays can be adapted for other semiconductor applications, potentially giving Visionox advantages beyond the display sector.
The Kunshan facility is expected to begin operations by early 2026, creating hundreds of high-skilled technical positions and strengthening the region’s position as a hub for electronic information industries.
